Today, we’re trying Iekei Ramen for the first time at the legendary Yoshimuraya in Yokohama.
This shop is the birthplace of Iekei Ramen, a unique style that blends pork bone broth and soy sauce. The result is a rich, creamy, and savory soup that bursts with flavor.
Its thick, irregular, and chewy noodles are perfect for absorbing that delicious broth. It’s topped with tender chashu pork, spinach, and nori.
We arrived at the store at around 1:00 pm and there was still a long line of customers that reached the back of the building, waiting to be seated. It was very kind of the staff to provide umbrellas to the customers as it was drizzling that day. It took more or less 30 minutes before we got seated at the counter.
I ordered a large bowl for JPY 1050.00. It is also available in regular and medium sizes. You can also order additional chasu pork as well as other toppings such as egg and vegetables.
Iekei Ramen is good for those who like bold and intense flavors, some people may find the broth extremely salty and greasy. You might want to adjust the richness level when ordering or pair it with a bowl of rice just like what their regulars do.
