Everything We Ate at Newton Food Centre in Singapore

Today, we’re showing you everything we ate at Newton Food Centre. Let’s eat!

Newton is another hawker center that is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. It became even more popular after being featured in the movie “Crazy Rich Asians” in 2018. While others may argue that the place is known for being overpriced and overcrowded, several stalls rightfully gained recognition because of their good food.

Our first stop is Alliance Seafood at Stall No. 27 for the iconic Singapore Chili Crab. We ordered one big crab cooked in a rich, sweet, and spicy chili sauce. It had plenty of crab meat that was very delicate, fresh, and sweet. It was a little bit expensive but the perfect combination of sweetness and heat is overall worth it.

Next up on our list is Heng Heng BBQ at Stall No. 31 for their Barbecue Stingray. This dish features tender stingray grilled to perfection and topped with a rich sambal sauce. I have never tried Stingray before so I was looking forward to this one. The flesh was indeed tender and fresh and was the perfect vessel to put that flavor-explosive sambal. The spice and saltiness were too much to handle for my mother though.

Moving on to Hokkien Mee right here is Newton Old Signboard, Stall No. 25. This dish is made of stir-fried egg noodles, bihon, prawns, and squid. Never tried this one before as well and it wasn’t as flavorful as I expected it to be. Nonetheless, the taste was okay and it was very filling.

Finally, we ordered some chicken wings from Chong Pang Huat at Stall No. 62. These wings were grilled to perfection. That smoky barbecue flavor penetrates the meat and bones. It’s very affordable too, only $1.60 for each wing.
