The tour begins with a three-hour scenic but comfortable bus ride from Fukuoka to Miyazaki.
Our first stop is the highlight of the trip — Takachiho Gorge. To get there, we started with a 15-minute downhill hike leading to the Manai Waterfall.

When you reach the gorge, you’ll see towering cliffs carved by volcanic lava, surrounding an emerald-green river below. You can rent a boat and paddle through the river for a closer look, or simply admire the view from the viewing deck.

Visiting in summer is especially beautiful — the gorge is surrounded by lush greenery, and the water shines in deep shades of blue and green under the sunlight.
Don’t forget to walk to the other end of the river to enjoy another amazing perspective of the waterfalls from the arched bridge.
Next, we headed to the Nakadake Crater in Mount Aso, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes. The smell of sulfur in the air is strong, but the sight of the crater is unbelievable.

Our final stop is Kusasenri, a wide grassy plain that looks straight out of a postcard. Here, you’ll find horses grazing freely, small ponds, and a 360° view of the surrounding mountains.

There’s also a rest area nearby filled with restaurants where you can try Kumamoto beef and ice cream made from local dairy milk.
