Today, we’re taking you on a delicious journey through some must-try treats in Asakusa, Tokyo’s vibrant cultural hub, where tradition meets irresistible street food!
But first, let me show you this free rooftop deck inside Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, right across Kaminarimon Gate, where you can enjoy a view of Nakamise Street and Sensoji from above and Tokyo Sky Tree from afar.
Our first stop is Kokonoe, where Age Manju or fried Manju is a must-try. These are deep-fried buns filled with sweet red bean paste. We also ordered another one filled with custard. The crispy shell and smooth filling make it the perfect warm snack.
Next, we waited in line for about 10 minutes to get some Ice Cream-Filled Melon Pan from Asakusa Kagetsudō, a crispy, buttery melon pan filled with cold vanilla ice cream. The contrast of warm bread and ice cream is just so comforting.
Time for something savory! We stumbled upon this takoyaki shop called Asakusa Takomaru for some classic octopus balls that are hot and fresh.
Jan also bought Curry Bread from Giraffa Curry Pan. It’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Stuffed with a meaty curry filling, each bite is an explosion of flavor—a perfect blend of spice and crunch!
For our finale, Baked Sweet Potato Brûlée from Imo Pippi. The sugar crust cracks open to reveal a warm, velvety sweet potato filling that is so sweet and creamy, a one-of-a-kind caramelized masterpiece.
